The novel’s narrator and protagonist, Hazel is a year-old girl living with a terminal form of thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs. Because of her cancer she is forced to carry an oxygen tank. A precocious and conscientious girl, Hazel thinks deeply about her life and death, deciding to keep those around her at a distance because she believes her death will damage them. The book ends with her reading the eulogy, which states that he hopes that she's happy with the choices she made. Hazel says that yes, she is happy. Chapter 1. Hazel Grace opens The Fault in Our Stars with a snide comment about how her mother thinks she's depressed. Because of her supposed depression, Hazel has to go to a weekly Support Group.

"A Memory of Violets" was such a book. I could describe this novel in one word only without a problem and this word would be: "beautiful".
